How to delete your account (app or web — about 30 seconds)
Native app settings
- Open Fishing Codex
- Go to Me → Settings
- Scroll to Danger Zone → Delete account
- Confirm. Deletion of your cloud data starts immediately.
Web account settings
- Sign in at fishingcodex.com/account/settings
- Scroll to Danger zone → Delete account and all data
- Confirm. Deletion of your cloud data starts immediately.
Can't access the app or web account settings? Email [email protected] with the subject “Delete my account” from the email address linked to your Fishing Codex account, Apple sign-in, Google sign-in, or email-code login. We verify it is you, then complete the deletion within 30 days and confirm by reply.
What is deleted
- Your account record and profile (display name, avatar)
- Your cloud-synced entries, catches, and photos (GPS tracks exist only on your device and are removed by deleting the app). Photo files that another user's paid purchase still depends on are retained for that buyer only, no longer linked to your identity.
- Your feed posts, follows, and reviews
- Your Sign in with Apple / Google sign-in connection (the sign-in token link is revoked)
- Your push-notification tokens and device registrations
- Your web marketplace entitlements, free claims, subscription access, and identifying purchase-history fields (transaction references may be retained for tax, chargeback, fraud, and accounting reasons — see below)
Data stored only on your device is removed by deleting the app. Deletion of cloud data is permanent — we cannot restore a deleted account.
What is kept, and for how long
Deletion removes your Fishing Codex account data from our active product systems, but it does not delete records that Stripe, Apple, Google, card networks, banks, app stores, tax authorities, or legal process require those providers to keep in their own systems.
| Data | Why kept | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe, Apple, Google, transaction, dispute, refund, tax, and payout references | Tax, accounting, chargeback, fraud-prevention, payment-network, and legal record-keeping | 7 years, then deleted |
| Content-moderation and safety reports | Platform safety, abuse prevention, legal compliance | Up to 2 years, then deleted |
| Aggregated heatmap contributions | Already anonymised and aggregated — no link to you | Indefinite (anonymous) |
| Crash and diagnostic logs (Sentry) | Stability debugging | Auto-expire within 90 days |
Before you delete
- Export your data first if you want a copy: Settings → Data → Data export (JSON of your entries, catches, and account record).
- You can delete individual entries, catches, or posts at any time without deleting your account.
- Live logbook subscriptions: deleting your account automatically cancels your web marketplace subscriptions. You can also cancel them first at fishingcodex.com/account → Subscriptions.
- Cancel App Pro (if active) separately in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions or Google Play → Payments & subscriptions, otherwise the store keeps billing you.
- Selling anglers: if you sell entries, deletion cancels your buyers' subscriptions at the end of their current billing period, existing buyers keep what they purchased, and your Stripe connection is deauthorised (Stripe retains its own legal records). Email [email protected] if you want help winding down first.
