Fishing Codex legal
Angler Agreement
Fishing Codex · Effective 26 May 2026 · Last updated 25 June 2026
In plain English: Stripe pays you directly, Fishing Codex takes 15%, and you verify your identity once with Stripe. The legal detail is below.
Angler summary: you sell through your own Stripe Standard account, you are the merchant of record, FCL collects a 15% application fee, and Stripe handles KYC, payment processing, disputes, and payouts.
1. Eligibility and acceptance
You must be at least 18 to become a Fishing Codex angler. By ticking the angler agreement box, completing angler onboarding, connecting Stripe, or publishing a paid/free entry, you confirm that you have read and accepted this Angler Agreement, the Terms of Service, the Privacy Policy, and the Refund Policy.
Your acceptance may be recorded with account ID, timestamp, IP/device metadata where available, and the agreement version.
2. Compliance with law and local access rules
You are responsible for obeying all laws, regulations, access rights, and local rules for each published location, including fishing regulations, bag/size limits, seasonal closures, marine reserves, protected areas, rāhui, customary restrictions, private property, safety rules, and platform policies.
You must not publish any location that is illegal to access, illegal to fish, unsafe to promote, culturally restricted, environmentally sensitive in a way that makes publication harmful, or represented in a misleading way.
3. Eligible listings
You may publish only entries that the Fishing Codex app marks or treats as eligible for angler publishing. You must not fabricate coordinates, move pins to avoid restrictions, upload stock/AI photos as real catches, misrepresent an entry's history, or publish another person's private entry without permission.
Fishing Codex may block or remove listings that fail eligibility checks, appear unsafe, violate law or policy, receive credible reports, trigger fraud/compliance concerns, or undermine buyer trust.
4. What you can offer
- Free claims: temporary free buyer access under the buyer's lifetime claim slots (per account and device), granting 5-day access — or ongoing access for buyers with an active App Pro subscription — unless the product states otherwise.
- One-off paid entries: account access to a specific log entry for a one-time price.
- Logbook subscriptions: monthly or yearly access to your subscription entries while the buyer's subscription remains active and paid.
- Whole-logbook lifetime access: a one-time purchase for ongoing account access to your lifetime-access offering, subject to this Agreement, enforcement, refunds, disputes, takedowns, and legal limits.
5. GPS privacy duties
Do not try to expose exact GPS publicly before a valid entitlement. Public marketplace surfaces are designed to show approximate context only. The public heatmap is fuzzed to roughly 10 km. Exact GPS syncs to the buyer's Fishing Codex app account only after a valid purchase, lifetime access, active subscription, or free claim.
You must not publish exact coordinates in listing titles, descriptions, profile copy, images, screenshots, replies, reviews, or support messages unless a Fishing Codex product flow explicitly allows it.
6. Stripe Standard Connect and merchant-of-record status
Paid web marketplace transactions are Stripe direct charges on your connected Stripe Standard account. You are the merchant of record for your own sales. FCL is the platform operator and collects a 15% application fee.
You are responsible for maintaining your Stripe account, completing Stripe onboarding, keeping KYC/tax/bank details current, reviewing Stripe's terms, responding to Stripe requests, and complying with tax, accounting, consumer, and business obligations that apply to you.
Stripe, not FCL, collects sensitive KYC and bank information through hosted onboarding. FCL receives only the connected-account status and transaction/payout summaries needed to operate the marketplace.
7. Fees and payouts
FCL charges a 15% application fee on each paid web marketplace transaction. Stripe processing fees, currency conversion fees, dispute fees, refunds, chargebacks, reserves, and other Stripe charges may also apply.
Angler funds become available and are paid out according to Stripe's rules, your Stripe payout schedule, your bank, your country, your KYC status, fraud/compliance holds, refunds, disputes, and payment-network timing. FCL does not promise a fixed payout day or settlement window.
8. Refunds, disputes, and clawbacks
Fishing Codex does not offer discretionary buyer refunds for digital marketplace access. Refunds are provided only where required by applicable law, store/card-network process, Stripe outcome, court/regulator decision, or other non-excludable right.
If a payment is refunded, reversed, charged back, disputed successfully, found fraudulent, or legally required to be refunded, the buyer's entitlement may be revoked and your Stripe account or angler ledger may be debited. You are responsible for negative balances, dispute fees, clawbacks, and Stripe obligations connected to your sales.
9. Buyer dealings and support
You must deal with buyers honestly and professionally. Do not promise fish, catches, legal access, weather, tide outcomes, safety, or results. If rules, access, safety, or listing accuracy materially changes, promptly update or remove the listing and cooperate with support.
Support, legal, privacy, and payment requests must be handled through Fishing Codex and Stripe where appropriate. Do not ask buyers for payment credentials, bank details, government IDs, or off-platform payments.
10. Content rights and licence
You retain rights in your listing content. You grant FCL a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, process, display, market, transmit, cache, moderate, and back up your content as needed to operate Fishing Codex and the marketplace.
You confirm that you have all rights needed for photos, copy, catches, entries, and other material you upload, and that the content does not violate another person's rights or expose sensitive information unlawfully.
11. Data, export, and deletion effects
Buyers do not receive a right to export subscription entries or free-claimed entries. Data export is limited to permanently-owned data and does not turn temporary buyer access into transferable angler data.
If you delete your account or are removed as an angler, FCL may remove public listings and profile surfaces. We may retain limited transaction, tax, dispute, audit, abuse-prevention, and accounting records as required or permitted by law and payment-network obligations.
12. Enforcement
FCL may warn, delist, de-rank, suspend, revoke angler status, withhold platform access, restrict payouts where legally permitted, report illegal activity, or remove content if we believe you breached this Agreement, the Terms, law, Stripe rules, buyer trust obligations, safety expectations, or marketplace integrity.
13. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless FCL, its directors, operators, contractors, affiliates, and service providers from claims, losses, damages, fees, fines, chargebacks, disputes, legal costs, or liabilities arising from your listings, your conduct, your Stripe account, your taxes, your buyer dealings, your breach of this Agreement, or your breach of law.
14. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, FCL's total liability to you is limited to the platform fees FCL actually collected from your marketplace sales in the 3 months before the claim. Nothing in this Agreement excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
15. Changes and contact
We may update this Angler Agreement when marketplace rules, payment flows, legal requirements, or Stripe requirements change. Material changes will be notified where practical.
